Thanks for this! THINK Journal just published a poem of mine about William James & about what I think of as a recent “sighting” of my brother, whom we lost in 2023. Those we’ve loved stay with us.
Thanks for sharing. I’ll have to go back and look for the article about your mother. I have a poetry place too, I am preparing to share memoir about my mom, who died 11 years ago. It’s taken me this long but now I’m ready to share her with the world. She was amazing.
My dad is around and I am enjoying getting to know him more now that mom isn’t around. She was the big talker… but now I’m hearing stories from my dad’s perspective instead of hers, which I love.
My dad has been gone for almost fifteen years now. I still often dream with him. In those dreams, I'm always about twelve years old, though I was nearing 60 when he died. Sports was about the only thing we could safely "discuss" with each other. He took me to Game 4 of the 1963 World Series at the then-new Dodger Stadium. Sandy Koufax vs Whitey Ford. I was able to return the favor in 1988, taking him to an A's vs Dodgers Series game. Thanks for reviving Dad Memories.
Patrick—thank you for this. I’m glad it had good Dad memories for you. I read what you wrote aloud to my wife and, though she’s more a casual baseball fan than anything else, both of us felt a shiver of happiness and nostalgia when reading/hearing Sandy Koufax vs Whitey Ford. I think I’d put Koufax in his prime up against any pitcher. Period. Of course he was the hero of every Jewish kid of my generation. Whitey was, well. he was the chairman of the board.

Yes, Margaret, they do stay with us. How would I get to see your poem?
The journal is only in print format, not online. If there is a way to share a word doc, I’d be happy to do that. I appreciate your asking!
A word document works. statmanm@gmail.com

A very fine remembrance. This afternoon, I drank one drink of good Oaxacan mezcal in honor of your father.
Thank you, Deborah. My dad would have liked that a lot.
